Busy days!

Yes, I am still here and yes I am still thinking about my blog. Although it has been some weeks since I wrote my last blogpost. The reason for this is that I was pretty busy with exams, work and social activities! ‘How I am handling all this without having seizures?’ I can hear you thinking…

The main reason for not having any seizures lately is that I finally have the feeling I am finding the balance between being busy and relaxing. This took me a very long time to figure out and I am sure this balance is going to be disturbed once in a while but for now I am doing pretty well. I am teaching myself to get enough sleep and trying to relax with something else than a computer, tablet or mobile phone. I try to go outside for a little walk, read a book or even doing some yoga. I have to say that the tips I got at the conference were very usefull and I tried to use as many as possible of them.

One tip I am using right now is trying to eat as healthy as possible on week days since in the weekend this is not always possible. Drinking a lot of water with lemon and eating less sugar is helping me a lot, since having too much sugar makes me feel shaky and can be a trigger for having a seizure. I have been doing this for a couple of weeks now and I am feeling really well and rested. Big plus, cooking all new healthy recipes is also a big relaxation after a long day of meetings and studying.

Exercising is one of the most important activities to relax body and mind and this was also greatly emphasized for PNES patients at the conference. I had been pretty lazy lately and since a couple of weeks I try to go to sports twice a week. And this, together with the healthy food is a big boost for feeling way better! Ideally I would like to do yoga once a week too but I still need to figure out how that schedule will look like.

I have not felt so good in a long time and I am sure the trip to the conference was a great motivation. Turns out, you can be a PNES patient and have busy, but seizure free weeks. Happy days 🙂
